The career of George Wang: from academic to his arrival at Ciel & Terre Taiwan

The career path of George Wang started with strong academic foundation in Power Electronics, giving him technical skills that have been instrumental throughout his career until his arrival at Ciel & Terre Taiwan. Motivated by his passion for renewable energy, he joined the Ciel & Terre in Taiwan in 2020.

Tell us more about your academic background?

My academic journey began with a Bachelor’s in Computer Science from National Taipei University of Technology. This training equipping me with the technical skills that have been instrumental throughout my career. Then, I hold a Master’s degree in Power Electronics from National Cheng Kung University, where I built a solid foundation in the field of renewable energy.

Why did you decide to join Ciel & Terre Taiwan ?

I decided to join the company in 2020 because of :

  • its pioneering role in the floating solar market
  • its commitment to innovation and sustainable energy solutions.

The opportunity to contribute to large-scale projects, such as the 192MW Changbin project, and to work with a team that values technical excellence and environmental responsibility was particularly appealing to me.

From project to division manager : the evolution of  George Wang at Ciel & Terre Taiwan

how does your first steps begin at Ciel & Terre Taiwan?

I started at Ciel & Terre Taiwan as a Senior Project Manager. My main objective was to ensure the successful planning and execution of floating solar projects.

I aimed to :

  • enhance the technical support provided to our sales team,
  • ensuring that all technical reports were accurate and comprehensive.

My ambition was to establish Ciel & Terre Taiwan as a leader in the floating solar market by delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget.

What can you tell us about your position as general manager at Ciel & Terre taiwan ?

Today, as General Manager of Ciel & Terre Taiwan, I oversee a team driving the largest floating solar projects in Taiwan. That includes for instance a 192 MW near-shore installation that has set global benchmarks.
With over 14 years of experience in the energy sector, I have held several key positions that demonstrate my ability to lead and innovate. My tenure at Delta Electronics further honed my project management and technical design skills, particularly in developing cost-effective solar solutions.

Joining Ciel & Terre Taiwan four years ago was a strategic decision, driven by my passion for sustainable energy and my ambition to contribute to groundbreaking projects.

What animates me is the opportunity to lead a team of passionate professionals who are dedicated to advancing the field of floating solar. The challenge of bringing innovative solutions to market and seeing our projects make a tangible impact on renewable energy development is incredibly fulfilling.

I am also deeply excited about the prospects of blue energy (ocean energy). At Ciel & Terre Taiwan, we are highly optimistic about this emerging trend. I am committed to leading our team to become the leading provider of technical solutions in this region. The potential to guide this team towards contributing to the growth of ocean energy is what drives my passion for leadership and innovation.

What has been the most memorable moment for you and for your team/for the office?

One of the most memorable moments was the successful grid connection of the 192MW Changbin project, the world’s largest near-shore floating solar project. This achievement marked a significant milestone for our team and positioned Ciel & Terre Taiwan as a global leader in floating solar technology.

What is your favorite mantra?

This mantra resonates with me as it underscores the importance of constantly seeking new and better ways to achieve our goals, particularly in a fast-evolving field like renewable energy.

Is Taiwan a specific market for floating solar?

Yes, Taiwan is a unique market for floating solar due to its limited land availability and abundant water resources. The island’s geographical and environmental conditions make floating solar a highly viable and attractive solution for expanding renewable energy capacity.

What kind of opportunities do you foresee for Ciel & Terre Taiwan in the upcoming years?

In the upcoming years, I foresee significant opportunities for Ciel & Terre Taiwan to expand our project portfolio, particularly in large-scale floating solar installations for nearshore and offshore applications. There is also potential for innovation in integrating floating solar with other renewable energy sources and storage solutions.

What do you think the future will be like in 10 years?

In 10 years, I envision a future where floating solar becomes a standard component of renewable energy strategies worldwide. Ciel & Terre Taiwan will continue to be at the forefront of this transformation, leading the way with innovative solutions that contribute to a sustainable and resilient energy future.
