[Lille, France – December 10, 2025] – A global leader in floating solar, Ciel & Terre unveils WattRack®, its new floating structure designed to maximize installed capacity and enhance the performance of floating solar power plants.
This launch marks a new milestone in the specialization of the group’s product offering, in line with its innovation-driven DNA and its commitment to delivering ever more efficient solutions tailored to the diverse needs of the market.
With 1.4 GWp installed and more than 340 projects completed worldwide, Ciel & Terre continues its mission to make floating solar energy more accessible and competitive globally. WattRack® embodies this ambition by offering a structure specifically designed for projects where maximizing density on a given site is key, reaching up to 2.2 MWp/ha.
WattRack® : maximising floating solar project density
Designed to build high-power floating solar plants (MWp per hectare), WattRack® introduces a new approach to floating PV with a rail-based structure.
By removing traditional maintenance walkways between module rows, this compact design enables the installation of significantly more photovoltaic modules per hectare, increasing the plant’s installed capacity.
Its East-West configuration reduces mechanical loads on the structure, making it possible to design larger plants with fewer anchoring points.
The result: an optimized plant design offering competitive CAPEX and OPEX for higher-performing floating solar projects.
A revolutionary maintenance system: the WattRack® trolley
To operate this “no-walkway structure”, Ciel & Terre has developed a motorized trolley dedicated to the operation of plants built with WattRack®.
This mobile car allows operators to move freely across the entire floating array and safely perform maintenance on PV modules, electrical components or anchoring points.
Key features of the WattRack® trolley include:
- An ergonomic design with integrated storage spaces for solar panels and tools to enable quick and easy module replacement
- A 300 kg load capacity with no impact on buoyancy, allowing operators and equipment to be transported safely
- Maximum safety thanks to a secured drive system, service and parking brakes, and an anti-derailment device
- A travel speed of 5 km/h and up to 5 hours of autonomy
- An integrated control panel enabling automated movement across the floating plant
With this system, maintenance operations become faster, simpler and safer. Operational teams no longer need to carry equipment manually and work in a secure environment.
An expanded FPV technology portfolio to suit all floating solar environments
With WattRack®, Ciel & Terre now structures its offering around three complementary ranges of floating solar solutions:
- Hydrelio® aiR Optim: a flexible, proven solution used for over 15 years, ideally suited to environments with waves, water level variations, or even full reservoir dry-out.
- Fusio®: a triangular solution forming a honeycomb structure for high robustness and mechanical stability, designed to reduce the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE).
- WattRack®: a semi-rigid solution designed to maximize density, smooth production curves, and optimize CAPEX and OPEX.
This segmented approach enhances Ciel & Terre’s ability to tailor every floating solar plant to the technical, environmental and economic constraints of each site.
For every new floating solar project, the company conducts a complete site assessment to provide the most suitable solution based on local conditions and the client’s business plan. Each plant is unique and therefore receives a personalized, custom-built response designed to offer the best possible technical and economic performance.
Ciel & Terre thus continues its mission to provide reliable solutions and smart services throughout the full lifetime of each power plant, ensuring long-term value.
